New Brunswick Strategic Initiative

NB PNP Strategic Initiative Stream targets French-speaking skilled workers with full-time work experience in New Brunswick to contribute to the province’s economy. To be eligible for the New Brunswick Strategic Initiative (NBSI) program, you must be PR-ready, meet all the eligibility requirements and follow every step of the application process. It is noted that being PR-ready means a fast processing of your application, less waiting period for approval and a better overall experience in the New Brunswick and Canadian immigration programs.

Eligibility Requirements for New Brunswick Strategic Initiative

  • To be eligible for Permanent Residency (PR) under the New Brunswick Strategic Initiative (NBSI) program, you must meet the following criteria:
  • Age: You should be between 19 and 55 years old.
  • Language: You must demonstrate your fluency in the French language. Your rating in Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) must be at least 5 in all reading, writing, listening, and speaking. You must get your language test results from the following institutes:
    • Test d’évaluation de français pour le Canada (TEF Canada)
    • Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada)
  • Intent For New Brunswick Residency: You must demonstrate your intent to live in New Brunswick. You must show your Settlement Plan, covering residency, ties to New Brunswick, personal finance, and other factors. Property ownership, earlier visits to Canada, and other elements are also considered for NBSI.
  • Education: You should have a Canadian secondary (high school) diploma as a minimum qualification. If not, you must have a foreign high school diploma and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
  • Qualifying Connection to New Brunswick: It is obligatory to have an exploratory visit, job or job offer with a New Brunswick employer, or direct invitation from the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Work Experience: You must demonstrate a minimum of 1 year of full-time (1,560 total or 30 hours per week) work experience in the same occupation mentioned in your application.
  • Settlement Plan: You must demonstrate a detailed settlement plan. The primary factor that the government will evaluate is your potential for economic and social integration.

New Brunswick Strategic Initiative Application Process

Stage 1: PR Readiness Being PR-Ready initially is critical as it ensures smooth processing of your application, prevents unnecessary delays, and leads to higher satisfaction with the overall immigration application system.

Stage 2: Expression of Interest (EOI) You should create your INB profile and share it with your Expression of Interest (EOI) during the NBSI process. Make sure to provide accurate information, especially about life-changing events.

Stage 3: Invitation to Apply (ITA) If you meet all the eligibility criteria, you may receive an invitation through the NBPNP’s Strategic Initiative program. You must submit the application within 45 days of receiving this invitation.

Stage 4: Submitting Provincial Application to GNB After the successful online submission of the form and processing fees, the Government of New Brunswick (GNB) will examine your application. If rejected, you may reapply with another stream, provided you meet the eligibility criteria.

Stage 5: Application Decision by IRCC After receiving a nomination from GNB, you are required to submit your final application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
