Northwest Territories – Skilled Worker stream targets skilled professionals to receive permanent residence who can actively contribute to helping registered employers meet the shortage of skilled workers in the province. NTNP Skilled Worker stream is designed to provide opportunities to qualified individuals with formal education, job experience, or specialised training under National Occupation Classification (NOC) TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.

Who Can Apply?

  • Candidates must have legal status to work and have a valid work permit.
  • Candidates with approved job offers.
  • Work experience of at least 1 year under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
  • Language proficiency – CLB Level 6 for NOC TEER 0, 1 and 2 & CLB Level 5 for NOC TEER 3.

Key Eligibility Requirements

The foremost part of this stream is your intention to resettle permanently in Northwest Terrorities and actively contribute to the economy. There are several eligibility criteria you must meet to apply for your nomination.

  • Connection to the Province: You must show your connection to the province by demonstrating your legal status to work in Canada. You must show at least one year of full-time, permanent employment with an authorized employer.
  • Language Proficiency: You must undergo language tests in either English or French to meet Canadian Language Benchmark Levels. For NOC TEER 0 and 1, you must meet CLB Level 6 in all four language abilities. For positions classified under NOC TEER 2 and 3, you must meet CLB Level 5.
  • Education: You must have the education qualification or accreditation for the occupation based on the employer’s job description and the NOC employment requirements. If you have completed your education outside of Canada, you must meet the Education Credential Assessment (ECA) to compare educational standards in Canada.
  • Settlement Fund: You must demonstrate sufficient funds to maintain yourself and your dependents with the Northwest Terrorities.

NTNP Skilled Worker Stream: Application Process

  • Stage 1: Submit a paper-based application to the NTNP. Generally, it would take 10 weeks to process the application.
  • Stage 2: If approved, you will be notified by the authority and issued a certificate of nomination.
  • Stage 3: Sign a MOI (Memorandum of Understanding) that mentions the terms and conditions of your nomination and your responsibilities.
  • Stage 4: Submit your federal application for Canadian permanent residence within six months after receiving your provincial nomination.
  • Stage 5: IRCC generally takes 18 months to process your application.

While there is no fixed time frame, applications through Express Entry are generally processed within six months.
