The specific occupations can be based on the economic requirements of the province, including needs in healthcare, technology, engineering, skilled trades, and other vital industries.

Priority Skills NL Eligibility Criteria

The NLPNP Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador has two primary categories:

  1. Graduates from Memorial University with a Master’s or Ph.D. program within three years before applying.
  2. Individuals with specialized skill set with exceptional educational qualifications and at least one year of work experience in a high-demand occupation.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Language proficiency: IELTS or CELPIP test score equivalent to CLB Level 5 or higher within the last twelve months.
  • Minimum age: 21.
  • Intent to live permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Completion of a Ph.D. or Master’s degree from Memorial University in the past three years, specializing in Technology, Health Care, Aquaculture, and Agriculture.
  • At least one year of experience in a high-demand occupation.
  • Meet the settlement funds requirement given by IRCC.

Priority Skills NL Application Process

  • Stage 1: Complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) profile using the official online immigration portal. Submit a resume, education or work credentials, and a cover letter.
  • Stage 2: Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) based on your questionnaire score, language proficiency, education, work experience, and supporting documents.
  • Stage 3: Submit an immigration application through the province’s official website.
  • Stage 4: Your application will be reviewed by the provincial immigration office. If you fulfill the eligibility criteria of the Skilled Worker or Express Entry Skilled Worker category, they will issue a provincial nomination certificate.
  • Important Note: For faster processing of your application (express processing), you must score high in language proficiency and work experience.
  • Stage 5: After receiving the nomination certificate, you may apply to IRCC for permanent residence in Canada. There is no fixed time frame to process the applications, but in general, for skilled workers, it takes approximately 18 months to process, and for Express Entry profiles, it takes around 6 months.
  • Important Note: Getting a provincial nomination certificate does not guarantee permanent residence.
